About

Beyond1200 is my (Peter Stewart’s) blog tracking my progress on the way to a 1200km, sub-72 hour ride around the beautiful island of Taiwan, currently planned for the last three days of 2010.

What do I blog about here?

Training tips: how to ride to reach your targets. Although I have been loved riding since the age of 14 when I got my first “real” mountain bike I have been pretty inactive over the last half decade. Now I have to learn and relearn everything needed to plan a good workout that will support my big ride.

Nutrition tips: both during rides and in everyday life. I’ve been slack in this area too and starting from 90kg I’d like to get down to 80kg, a full 2kg less than my all-time low of 82kg. This is doable. I have no kitchen, a never-used fridge and a US$6-8 a day food allowance.

Riding tips: how to keep yourself in sync with all the other vehicles on the road, how to handle your bike properly and advised good riding etiquette.

Equipment tips. Expose crap for what it is. My Shimano shoes, Cateye Cordless 2, Camelbak Rogue and Howzit cycling shirt have all served, and continue to serve, me faithfully for over a decade. I’m on a super-tight budget so not too much new stuff planned yet.

Cycling lifestyle: how to make bicycles a more permanent and continuous part of your life.
